‘La Seine, Le matin (St. Ouen)’

Acquisition of a work by Charles Angrand

The Van Gogh Museum acquired the 1886 painting La Seine, Le Matin (Saint Ouen) by Charles Angrand (1854-1926). Angrand recorded that he painted this work during his development towards neo-Impressionism. As the first picture by this artist in the Van Gogh Museum’s collection, it is an important addition to the museum’s small group of neo-Impressionist paintings which place Van Gogh’s life and work in the context of his time and his contemporaries.
