Acquisition Pollard Willow by Vincent van Gogh

For the first time in five years an opportunity arose for the Van Gogh Museum to buy a work by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). The watercolour Pollard Willow is an important addition to the museum’s collection. Director Axel Rüger commented on the purchase: ‘The work specifically featured on our wish list as an important potential acquisition because it is one of the most representative watercolours from Van Gogh’s time in The Hague. Until today we had no example of this in our collection. That this work is now part of our collection is fantastic, not just for the Van Gogh Museum but for Dutch public art collections in general.’
