On 8 February the Turing Museumplein Bus took its first journey. Bright and early the bus collected 23 school children in Zaandam and conveyed them to Museumplein in Amsterdam, where they enjoyed an entertaining and educational tour of the Van Gogh Museum.
Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Stedelijk
Research has shown that transport forms the greatest barrier for schools who wish to visit a museum with their pupils . Over the coming years the Turing Museumplein Bus will provide free and easy transport to Museumplein for thousands of school children from Groups 6, 7 and 8 at schools in the Amsterdam region. This will allow them to visit one of Museumplein’s three museums - the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam – whose combined collections present an overview of the highlights of Dutch art history from the seventeenth century to the present, highlighting renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Mondriaan. The museums’ educational programmes have been tailored to each other.
